In this special month of Ramadhan, I would like to share some information about dates. They are known as "Kurma" in Bahasa Melayu.
Do you like to eat dates ?
Have you seen the so called date 'trees'?
They are not actually trees but palms with a thin and long trunk and with branches and fronds only at the top.
Please do not underate dates. Dates are the world's number one superfood for the control or prevention of hypertension, cholestrol, heart attacks and stroke. They are rich in nutrients that will boost your metabolism, and are also a great source of minerals.
The date palm is honoured by the Jews, Christians and Muslims as a symbol of honesty and positive values. Dates are also rich in vitamins and are good for the skin because of its anti-aging properties. High in vitamins, minerals, iron and fluorine, make dates a regular part of your diet, especially if you are battling cholestrol problems.
Dates contains a substantial amount of dietary fiber and therefore are beneficial in improving the digestive system, especially in the relief of constipation. Dates are extremely rich in vitamins such as Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 & C. Mahatma Gandhi used to eat dates with milk or youghurt as a meal.
During Ramadhan, the muslims usually break fast at sundown with soft cakes or fruits, and dates are a favourite with them at this time.
Hope you enjoy eating dates regularly as dates are among the world's favourite super foods.
Special thanks to Mr. Abtar Singh in preparing this video.
